Bride of The Year
Jodie Lang radiated happiness on the day she wed her beloved Chris Young!
We got engaged on St Clair beach in Dunedin in 2017 and we were married on the 2nd of March 2019, at Spy Valley Winery in Marlborough.
We made the move to Marlborough just over six years ago and wanted to showcase to our guests what we love about living here (all in a plot to convince them to move here of course). With our hearts set on getting married in a vineyard we went venue scouting one weekend. When we visited Spy Valley Winery we knew straight away that we wanted to lock it in with it’s modern layout, intimate feel, wooden features and of course delicious wine!
I had envisioned getting married surrounded by lush green vineyards to tie in with the greenery I had planned for my floral arrangements. We were lucky to secure a date at the start of Autumn and before all of the grapes were picked.
My wedding dress search was over after an unforgettable trip to Paperswan Bridal in Wellington. Thanks to my amazing maid of honor for her tireless support in what seemed like an endless search. The dress I fell in love with was called Sand Lily - Daisy by Katie Yeung. What drew me to it was it’s weighted detailed lace, low back and chapel train. I loved how it moved as I walked and its silk lining made it a so comfy to wear.
We wanted our wedding to have a ‘modern, intimate and relaxed’ feel.
I had three of my closest friends as my bridesmaids. They looked absolutely stunning in the Haven styled dress from BLAK the label and nude block heels. Their navy statement earrings tied in with the Groomsmen's ties.
We purchased Chris’s suit from Thomas’s, it was the New England suit in Charcoal. We went for it due to it’s quality and tailored fit. Chris also wore a with navy polka dot blue tie, brown shoes/belt and a white pocket sqaure.
Sound advice from our friends & family was to make sure we made time for ourselves during the day. During our photo shoot we enjoyed some time to chat and get excited about our future together.
Always go on an adventure to scout amazing photo locations leading up to your wedding. Going at the time your wedding is going to be is the best way to see where the light will be. Our photographers trusted our spots and alongside their talent the photos were amazing!
Create a private Instagram so you can visually plan out all of your wedding ideas. You can like posts and ask questions to vendors without your guests seeing what you've got planned!
We hired a dark green vintage Ford bus from Roadtrips Marlborough, it was the perfect size for our whole bridal party while we went on our photo shoot.
The most memorable part of the speeches were the lovely words that our family and friends shared with us, as Chris said when he started his speech “It has been an emotional day, even the cake is in tiers.”
We put a lot of careful planning and personal touches into our day. I pulled together the whole vision for the wedding and also designed all of the wedding stationery and signage myself (a process I loved doing). Chris is such a clever handyman and spent a lot of time making lots of the furniture (ceremony bench seats, archway, cake stand and outdoor games). We were lucky to have some pretty talented vendors in our area who helped bring our vision together. It all came together so beautifully on the day!
