Kadin and I met each other in 2014 at a mutual friend’s birthday dinner. We didn't talk to each other but he contacted my friend in the middle of the night to ask about me.
We got married on 3rd March 2019 at Aston Norwood Kaitoke Garden in Wellington.
Following Chinese wedding tradition, both Kadin and I were expected to serve tea in our traditional wedding outfits to both of our parents and close family.
It signifies respect and gratitude to our parents for all the years of love and care.
As part of the tea ceremony, I was given gold jewellery.
I decided to wear the jewellery given to me with my white bridal gown for the wedding ceremony to signify the importance of the tradition we follow.
I wanted a princess dress and this dress gave me the right amount of poof!
My wedding theme was purple and silver as purple is my favourite colour!
All three bridesmaids are my best friends. The girls had the same coloured dress but had the opportunity to choose their own style.
Kadin had his tuxedo custom made at The Suit Co in Bangkok. He had done his research on Pinterest and knew exactly what he wanted.
March was definitely a great choice as the weather on the wedding day was amazing!
For the wedding reception, I wanted to do a fairytale theme as I am a Disney fan. My lovely mother and I designed the centrepieces with bell jars (Princess Belle inspired). They had fairy lights inside and purple flowers surrounding them.
We wanted to show more of our Chinese tradition by gifting custom made chopsticks to our guests!
The chopsticks had “Kadin and Denise” engraved on them along with the wedding date. We also had the “happiness” logo in Chinese on the chopstick packaging.
The most memorable part of the speeches were when they talked about how we met, how we were growing up, what our personalities were like and how much we suit each other!
My most memorable moment of the day was actually the whole day. From getting ready, to the end of the night, everything went really smoothly and we had a great time! Even though it was busy, every single thing we did was meaningful and eventful.
