Why You Must Have a Makeup Trial

Why it's important to suss out your bridal beauty look before the big day.

  • Story by As told to Emily Bell

How crucial is having a trial?

95% of our brides have a trial and we highly recommend it; a trial is such a fun day where you get to see it all come together. Sometimes what you see in an image, when its on you, isn’t what you thought would look good with your dress, suit your individual features, or the overall look you wanted to achieve. Our industry experts go beyond recreating a photo. Before you arrive, we suggest you collect photos of styles that you like to show your artist. We then discuss these with you and suggest what would suit your personal features, the style of your wedding, and your dress before we start. Together we can then design your dream look that’s individual to you! Weddings are not cookie cutter events. Each bride is special and unique and your look should reflect that.

For our international brides flying into New Zealand, we can arrange a skype call to discuss plans with your artist if you are limited with time and won’t be able to fit in a trial. We have lots of brides who trust our experience and are happy for us to create the look on their wedding day, so if your budget doesn’t allow a trial, don’t worry - we have you covered!

Do you have any tips regarding skin prep leading up to the wedding day?

This is one area we go beyond with our clients and is all included in the service. At your trial we will discuss what we feel your skin needs in the lead-up to the day, and recommend the right beauty therapist or products to suit you and your skins needs. But don’t forget, good skin starts from within!

What’s your most popular or requested product?

Because our artists are so experienced, our clients want our recommendations to be honest most of the time. We cater for all brand preferences and also have our own VEGAN makeup kit including VEGAN brushes if required. Our artists have worked with top beauty brands in New Zealand and overseas, so because we are ‘neutral’ and don’t align with any one brand we can recommend the right product for you personally. We discuss what you should buy and the correct products for your specific needs, not like stores where they are selling products on a counter and need to reach sales targets.

What products should a bride carry with them on the big day?

Definitley a lipstick touchup kit! This is included in the price when you book with us. We also recommend a mineral blotting powder for super hot summer days. At your trial if there is anything specific we think you’ll need we will discuss this with you, and can arrange to get it for you at a wholesale price for the day, or give you a sample free to use.

Have you noticed any emerging beauty and/or makeup trends for 2019/20?

Brides are definitely edging towards a natural look for both hair and makeup. Beautiful, fresh and flawless skin is always the favourite and our specialty! There are tricks to enhance features so they look amazing in photos but also in person and not overdone. Your makeup artist will be able to discuss this with you.

At the end of the day, we always say to our brides that their partner is marrying them because they love them, not a stranger who is walking down the aisle. For our team its all about creating the 'wow' factor with the style and vision we have created together with our brides, and enhancing your natural features to be the best you.
