Tegan Sharp and Travis Manuirirangi married on Saturday 31st March 2018 during Easter weekend. The ceremony and reception was held at The Bungalow in Oakura Taranaki.

Travis proposed on the 14th of December 2016, the night of our graduation. We were on a quiet walk around the campus to take some photos before Travis serenaded me with ‘say you won't let go’ by James Bay and popped the question. With family members watching at a distance, it was such a magical moment and I was in complete shock and love at the same time.

The wedding was always going to be in Taranaki as it is where our roots are and our families live. For the venue, we wanted a view of the ocean, and The Bungalow certainly delivered.

We wanted to get married in summer as outdoor games were a must. Summer time made setting up and logistics a lot easier. Things we had to consider were sufficient refreshments, umbrellas and as it was Easter weekend the fact that some guests may have not been able to make it. It rained at lunch time before the wedding but it cleared up for the afternoon. We were so lucky!

For the menu, we had chosen a buffet style meal which was made up of a mixture of meats and salads. We had a two-layered cake which was made by my brother and sister-in-law. Travis really wanted chocolate and I wanted lemon so one of each it was! The chocolate was a mud cake, and the lemon was infused with gin. It was covered in vanilla swiss meringue icing and it was delicious. I had numerous guests tell me throughout the night that they couldn’t stop eating it, and there was none left over.

I went to three bridal stores with my sister and Mum but never quite found what I was looking for, so at a wedding fair I spoke to Anita from Vinka Design. I had a consultation with her and we both decided she would make me a custom dress. I had a sheath dress (which was floral and had some embroidery), it had a sheer lace top which went into a v and a white silhouette from the waist down. My veil was from Jessica Bridal, Senso Robbie heels in nude and my Zoe and Morgan Chimi earrings.

I had four bridesmaids; my sister, two friends from high school and a close friend from university. Their dresses were white slip dresses from Blak, they were simple and elegant. They had their own choice of shoes which were a black strapped heel. Gold ball earrings were the only jewellery addition.

Travis and I picked out his suit together. We went to Barkers where Travis chose a navy suit with a white shirt, navy spot ties, a tie clip, white pocket squares and a tan belt and shoes. The cufflinks were NBA of course. The Groomsmen matched Travis' but had their own selection of shoes.

We had Petal and Prickle create our blooms. The Mondeo rose was gorgeous at that time of the year - I wanted elegant long stems and they seemed to be the pick in March. The greenery was sourced from a wholesaler and we picked out ruscus, gum and eucalyptus.

We had so many memorable moments but walking in after we got married was so special. There was so much love around us, seeing my Mum and Dad before walking down the aisle, the Haka, Groom serenading, the dance floor antics, it was everything we wanted it to be.

Learn how to laugh. If things work out different on the day to how you imagined, just laugh it off. It’s all part of it and getting stressed means you are wasting time and not enjoying your special day.
