Aaron and I were both physical training instructors in the Airforce but at different bases. We met during an inter services basketball tournament where we both played for the air force. During Aaron's speech he said it was my 'defying gravity on the dance floor' that had him interested. We did a lot of long distance (him in Blenheim, myself in Ohakea) until we both moved to Auckland so we could be together.
Aaron put together an amazing race with various inside jokes thrown in. I had to do a workout, take a picture of the place we first saw each other then had 5 minutes to shower and pack. We ended up driving to Wellington and staying at the inter continental where he proposed (we are not showy people and his nightmare would have been to propose in front of others).
We went to our favourite place (and a place where on one of our first dates I set my hair on fire) flying burrito brothers and met up with my brother and his gf and danced the night away!
I'm not a dress person so I had a few styles in mind but nothing concrete. 40 minutes in Modes Bridal Newmarket and I had found and paid for my Pronovias Dress. It fit off the rack so was meant to be! The cut and fit suited my body shape and was easy to move around in. My dress was a floor length mermaid style silk and floral lace dress with a lace train, it had lace straps and a low back.
The men all wore navy trousers, tan or chocolate shoes and white shirts and navy ties all from barkers. They wore blue and white polka dot socks from Swanky Socks
We were engaged for just over a year and got married in the giant redwoods on Te Mata Peak, Havelock North in 11 Feb 2017 followed by a reception at Ellewood Function Centre Hastings surrounded by 120 friends and family. Kristina is from Hawkes Bay so grew up running/walking/taking the dogs up all the time. Aaron and I run up there on a regular basis and it has a very magical feel. It made for amazing photos too!
For the bridal car we borrowed our neighbour’s Maserati ( I got to drive for a bit - was amazing ) and the bridal party as well as my grandparents went in a hummersine from Bluewater Hotels Napier. We all departed in the hummersine and drove a few blocks before attending the reception.
We had penguin named tables and penguin cake toppers. Penguins mate for life and search the land for the perfect rock to find their mate. Aaron gave me a pebble for our first valentines day and an amazing rock for our engagement.
We chose to have a small chcocolate mud cake to cut as well as 5 flavours of cupcakes for our guests as dessert. Passionfruit, snickers, salted caramel, raspberry and white chocolate and chocolate
As long as your man turns up that’s all that matters! I can honestly say I didn't have any bridezilla moments and it was due to the fact I concentrated on myself and Aaron and what we were there for.
