Jason & Jeff

Jason Harris and Jeff Cameron chose the country’s capital to create their dazzling and original winter wedding. They got married on the 5th of May 2018.

Jeff and I met as colleagues in Melbourne. Jeff was new to the office and I was shy, which intrigued him and prompted him to get a conversation out of me. We went out for a beer after work, which eased the nerves and we hit it off from there. It has been love ever since!

Jeff proposed during a trip to Fiji. I’d just spent the day with friends and came back to our room to find Jeff waiting with a bottle of Champagne ready to go, so we set out to find the perfect spot on the beach to have a drink. As I sat down to pop the bubbles, Jeff got down on one knee and pulled out not one, but two engagement rings – a gold ring and a white gold ring! It came as a complete surprise to me, but I, of course, said yes! He let me choose which ring I liked the best, and it later became inspiration for our wedding palette.

Jeff and I tied the knot a year and a half later at Foxglove Bar and Kitchen in Wellington. We held both our ceremony and reception in The Ballroom, which had all of its original wooden beams, a high ceiling with elegant chandeliers and two balconies overlooking the Wellington harbour, with plenty of room to dance. We planned our wedding before it was legal to marry in Australia and, since I’m from the Wellington area, there was no question about it – New Zealand would have been our dream location either way.

We wanted the day to represent us as a couple – a mix of quirky, fun and romantic. Being a large space, we used larger items to fill it – we had a five-metre-long rose wall, which was great for a photo backdrop, and hired four large olive trees to border the ceremony area. We wanted to create a flower style that was a mix of masculine and feminine. We pulled that off by mixing ruscus and the olive trees with roses and orchids.

We both wore tuxedos, but went with gold and silver for something unique. Our blazers were designed by Jack London and Politix and we paired these with trousers, shirts, silk bow ties and belts from Calibre, and Hugo Boss shoes. Our Maids of Honour were both our younger sisters and Jeff’s two friends were our bridesmaids. Our groomsmen were my two brothers, our mate Glen and Jeff’s cousin Scott.

We sent photos in advance to our cake maker Anna from Go Cake Yourself, who managed to create miniature versions of us to go on top of the cake, with a bride climbing up the side trying to reclaim
her heels and handbag.

We wanted to incorporate our sense of humour throughout the whole day, from the ceremony music to the vows. We wanted a carefree, relaxed and loving vibe, and I think we absolutely pulled it off!
