From early planning stages, we knew Tekapo was the place for us, we would have loved to have had it on the family farm but it was logistically not possible with the size of the wedding. Tekapo is a place we both enjoy going to in summer and was somewhere we felt would be suitable for the day we wanted.

Our wedding theme was rustic & relaxed. We wanted to have a day where it was a reflection of us, nothing too over the top but well thought out and attention to detail.

Hannah from Mackenzie Florist did our floral arrangements. I wanted pink and white and something country. I left it up to her after sending her photos of what I wanted and she absolutely nailed it.

I didn’t know what I wanted to wear for my gown and went looking with my mum and sister in Christchurch. We went to a few shops but found Wilkins Bridal super helpful and Jude helped with my brief. Not strapless or tight on the hips. When she gave me the dress I later chose, she hadn’t yet seen it on anyone. It was perfect and I felt like crying. I felt like it was perfect and suited me. It is Essense of Australia.

I had four bridesmaids, my sister, two amazing friends and a very close family friend who is like a sister to me. They wore H by Harlow dresses. Raelene Bleeker Design altered the dresses as they were the last four left in NZ. I chose this style because it was flattering on all of them & I wanted them to be comfortable and enjoy the day without worrying about their dresses.

The boys went out shopping in town (Timaru) as a group and found some very interesting outfits, some that looked like wool fadges...They finally got to Hallensteins and found some pretty sweet outfits, though none of them will admit to this day that they wore chinos!

I made our cake; I like to make cakes in my spare time. I used Lachie’s, Granny Bettys, whiskey fruit cake recipe. It was a single tier and beautifully decorated. A friend of a friend decorated it for us. I also made a hazelnut pear and dark chocolate cake for on the dessert table with cream cheese icing.

My advice to the future brides would be to enjoy the day and don’t stress the small stuff – get someone to pack you some food for when you get home, and remember you’ve planned for so long and it will be over before you know it so sit back and enjoy the view while you’re eating your dinner and see the smiles on everyone’s faces, it is heartwarming!
